Anticipating an Enormous Salmon Run on the Mid Columbia River
Fishing near the mouth of the Deschutes River
Experience world-class fishing on the mouth of the Deschutes River in Oregon, between Biggs Junction and The Dalles. From September 1st to October 1st, join us as we target fall chinook using our proven trolling techniques with flashers, spinners, or super baits.
This year, the fall salmon prediction is an impressive 554,000 chinook and 595,000 coho, ensuring an exciting and bountiful fishing experience. At this location, you can keep 2 salmon, with one being a coveted chinook.
What sets this location apart is the unique mix of cool water from the Deschutes River and warmer water from the Mid Columbia River, creating a “cold water refuge.” This creates the perfect environment for migrating fish to slow down or hold for a certain period of time, increasing your chances of a successful catch.
There are 4 major museums: Columbia River Maritime museum, Fort Stevens, Fort Columbia, Lewis and Clark interpretive center. Many wonderful hotels. My favorite being a history buff is the Cannery pier located near the west basin marina where Reel Time Docks the boats. Other nice hotels near the boat Riverwalk, Holiday inn express,
Best Western and motel 6. Here are a few of our favorite restaurants: Bridge Street Bistro, Silver Salmon and of course the best fish and chips on the planet, the walk up boat called the bow picker. The variety of marine life coupled with great fishing and weather make this a must do.
